Funded Trader Interview #7: Austin

trader-interview-austin

How did you find out about Breakout?
Randomly saw Mayne on Riz’s podcast – never even considered prop firms before that.

In broad terms, what is your trading strategy?
I dream of having the capital to be a slow swing trader but scalping is the focus for the foreseeable future.

In more detailed terms, what is your favourite setup?
I love a mean reversion, heavy scalp, off the reclaim of a massive level. Gets me in trouble sometimes but the payoffs are insane. Trying to fall in love with simple momentum moves nowadays 🙂

How frequently do you trade?
Monday through Friday – supposed to be just 3 hours a day – but that’s only when things are going well.

What is the best piece of trading advice you’ve ever received?
The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent, haha.

What do you find most difficult in trading?
Setting personal limits and sticking to them. Being happy with profits when things are good. Risk control when things are bad.

How was your experience with the Breakout Evaluation and Breakout Account?
It’s my first prop firm but I read a lot of horror stories about the industry so I steered clear. Decided to give it a try after hearing Mayne talk about it. I’ve been really happy. Can’t say I’ve been consistent but at the very least I have the opportunity to really practice and work on my psychological traps without it costing me a fortune like it was live trading. My favorite thing by far has been the mandatory risk limitations – something I just wasn’t giving myself in my personal account. The crew is stellar, the support is always there to lend me a hand, Mayne himself helped a brother out one dark day. I’m a fan for life!

What advice would you give to someone starting their Breakout Evaluation?
Spend some time getting to know the system on the front end – read all the announcements and FAQs – setup the terminal just right. Knowing the intricacies will save you many blown accounts. Stops are your friend. Waiting a day to let your loss limits reset can be frustrating but ultimately the right decision. After that, define your strategy and get in there!

Would you recommend Breakout to other traders?
Most definitely – I have a LOT of trust with these guys after consistently showing up, paying out, and running a top tier prop firm 🙂
