Funded Trader Interview #6: David

How did you find out about Breakout?
When I found TraderMayne’s profile on Twitter/X, I saw he was a founder of Breakout, but I didn’t look closer into it until I checked out Propfirmmatch to check out some prop firms and to try out some new ones as I wasn’t happy with the ones I was using at that time as I felt like they restricted my freedom as a trader.

In broad terms, what is your trading strategy?
I trade looking at funding rates for derivatives. For example I love taking longs on coins that are about to turn to negative funding, meaning where a lot of shorting is happening, in order to capitalize on brutal short squeezes and also vice versa I love taking shorts on coins that turn from negative funding to positive funding. It’s somewhat of a contrarian trading strategy.

Additionally, on green days, I like looking through the scanner on Breakout’s platform to look for coins that are lagging behind and are either negative on the day or barely positive to look for longs. For this, I sort the coins by using the filter function. When there is a red day and most coins are negative, I look for shorts on coins that are somehow positive or barely negative. This strategy works only on days where the market is not in consolidation.

In more detailed terms, what is your favourite setup?
On trending days I look to long or short lagging coins. For example, this week when almost everything was down double digits, I looked through the dashboard scanner and saw $MOG (shit/memecoin) was still positive and decided to layer in some shorts as there is literally no reason for it to still be up in a sea of red. It ended up being a very successful trade.

My exits are almost always based on either buyside or sellside liquidity and my entries take place after a liquidity sweep on low time frames.

How frequently do you trade?
Usually daily as there is always one of my setups playing out. But if it does happen to be a consolidation day/chop fest, I quit trading that day if I lose 2 trades in a row.

What is the best piece of trading advice you’ve ever received?
To stick to a trade idea if you have conviction behind it and not widen the stop level.

A quote I always love going by is: “If you want to take the train to California, you don’t get off in Chicago” meaning stick to your plan and the level you have in mind to exit a trade to maximize the profit you could make. Rather than having a lot of trades, focus on quality ones with a great RRR.

What do you find most difficult in trading?
To avoid overtrading or trading on days where the market is chopping. It’s hard but noticing when one’s cards that were dealt on a specific day aren’t great, it’s better to just fold.

How was your experience with the Breakout Evaluation and Breakout Account?
It couldn’t be better. Since I joined Breakout, I’ve finally become profitable and not restricted in the way I trade. The only rules I have to adhere to are risk management rules, which one should stick to when trading personal capital anyways to limit risk and maximize profits.

Literally, there are no rules, no restrictions, nothing. It has never been easier to trade prop fund accounts than it is with Breakout.

I’ve literally passed both my evaluation accounts within a couple of hours, signed the contract right away, and had my trading enabled within 2 hours.

Additionally, nobody in the industry does it like Breakout with their daily payouts. I have two funded accounts at the moment and have been getting two payouts daily which get approved and arrive in my wallet in less than 10 hours, that’s absolutely crazy.

As soon as the payout gets approved, I can continue trading again.

What advice would you give to someone starting their Breakout Evaluation?
Don’t rush the process as anyways there is no time limit and you can get payouts daily. It’s not running away. Just focus on your skills and believe in yourself.

Would you recommend Breakout to other traders?
Definitely. If you feel restricted in your trading freedom with other companies and it makes me feel like a bad trader, don’t fret, go with Breakout. I also must stress how absolutely amazing the support staff is (shoutout Bryce, Ric and Ben and the rest I haven’t had the pleasure to get helped by yet). They find a solution and answer for everything as well as the mods in Discord. I feel in such good hands and so happy to have found Breakout.

Finally, I have found the confidence and profitability I was searching for all this time. Breakout helped me pay off debt and find my true self.

Thank you for everything and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
